Many people may not be familiar with the roll-straightening method used by hydraulic pipe bending machines. After the initial rolling pass, the workpiece's radial runout is checked and marked at four points. A four-jaw chuck is then used to align the concave section of the workpiece with the machine's axis of rotation—positioning it at the highest point relative to the center—with the adjustment magnitude proportional to the degree of the bend. A second rolling pass is performed, followed by fine-tuning the chuck jaws and using a dial indicator to correct the workpiece's alignment. The straightness is checked again with the dial indicator; if the workpiece remains bent, the adjustment and rolling process is repeated until the required straightness is achieved.
